Filling ACDs
NOTE: Use the blue cryo gloves and eye protection during the entire ACD filling procedure. See Properties of LN2 under General Lab Safety in Support.
| 1. Fill the gray 4L dewar from the LN2 supply in the specimen preparation room 637. Use the dewar to fill a smaller flask, if needed. | VIEW | |||||
| 2. Locate the chrome-plated ACD filling funnel. | VIEW | |||||
| 3. Push the stairs to the front of the TEM and locate the ACDs (one on each side of the column). | VIEW | |||||
| 4. Remove the ACD heater by releasing the wiring cable and lifting the heater out of the ACD. Place the heaters on the table. | VIEW | |||||
| 5. Insert the funnel into the ACD opening and slowly fill the ACD. It should take ~4 funnels full of LN2. Repeat on the other side. | VIEW | |||||
NOTE: After a few minutes, top up the ACDs with one more fill (~1-2 funnels full). Insert the white caps into the ACD openings.
