Filling ACDs

NOTE: Use the blue cryo gloves and eye protection during the entire ACD filling procedure. See Properties of LN2 under General Lab Safety in Support.

1. Fill the gray 4L dewar from the LN2 supply in the specimen preparation room 637. Use the dewar to fill a smaller flask, if needed. VIEW
2. Locate the chrome-plated ACD filling funnel. VIEW
3. Push the stairs to the front of the TEM and locate the ACDs (one on each side of the column). VIEW
4. Remove the ACD heater by releasing the wiring cable and lifting the heater out of the ACD. Place the heaters on the table. VIEW
5. Insert the funnel into the ACD opening and slowly fill the ACD. It should take ~4 funnels full of LN2. Repeat on the other side. VIEW

NOTE: After a few minutes, top up the ACDs with one more fill (~1-2 funnels full). Insert the white caps into the ACD openings.
