User Rules for Plate Changing

NOTE: ACMAL staff will teach you how to change plates and develop film. Do not attempt to do these steps if you have not received the proper training.

1. Please change exposed plates after every microscope session, even if you have used only one or two plates. If the next user expects to take a large number of plates, however, and you have only a few exposed, it may be preferable for them to continue using that magazine until all the plates are exposed. This will mean that the maximum number of well-desiccated plates are available. Negotiate with the next user to determine the best course of action.

WARNING: The next user is not responsible for your plates. If you leave exposed plates in the magazine you do so at your own peril.

2. To reset the unexposed film counter, type in FUN and enter 50 <return>. DO NOT reset the microscope film counter; it is useful to know how many plates have been exposed in total. When you reload the plates, the number of exposed plates should be set to zero.

3. ALWAYS inspect the o-ring on the camera door before closing it. Wipe off any hairs or dust with the use of a lint-free wipe or a finger encased in a rubber glove.
