Initial Alignment
High Voltage Centering Adjustment
1. Set the SPOT SIZE=1, MAG=~100 kX. |

| 2. Spread the beam with the BRIGHTNESS knob and center a point of interest on specimen. NOTE: It is helpful to select a point on the sample with features that have both an X and Y orientation. |

| 3.1. IMPORTANT: Spread the illumination with BRIGHTNESS knob. | VIEW | |||||
| 3.2. Push the SCREEN button 2 times to raise the screen. | VIEW | |||||
| 3.3. In the DigitalMicrograph program within the Camera View panel select Setup > Focus and Exposure Mode > Optimize. | VIEW | |||||
| 3.4. Check the Camera Inserted box. | VIEW | |||||
| 3.5. Click START view. | ||||||
| 3.6. Enter MAG in the menu box, then OK. | ||||||
| 4. Focus the image using the OBJ FOCUS knob. | VIEW | |||||
| 5. Engage the WOBBLER, HT (on the right main panel). | VIEW | |||||
| 6. Engage the DEFLECTOR, BRIT TILT button (on the left main panel). | VIEW | |||||
7. Using the DEF X,Y knobs and the GATAN CAMERA image, try to eliminate specimen translation. As you turn either (but not both, simultaneously) the X or Y knob, look for both a decrease in the magnitude of the translation and a change in the direction of translation. When this occurs, turn the other knob. Repeat until the translation is eliminated and the image appears to "blink". |

| 8. Push the SCREEN button one time to lower the screen. | VIEW | |||||
| 9. Disengage the DEFLECTOR, BRIT TILT and the WOBBLER, HT buttons. | VIEW | |||||
| 10. Click Stop View in the DigitalMicrograph software. | VIEW | |||||
11. Uncheck the Camera Inserted box. |
